It has become apparent that your new WWE Champion Triple H will not be defending the WWE Title for 8 weeks Until April 3, 2016 in the main event of Wrestlemania 32 against the winner of the Fastlane Tripe Threat Main Event of Brock Lesnar vs Dean Ambrose vs Roman Reigns.
Leading up to the Royal Rumble the thought of HHH with the title didn’t sit well with me. What sat worse was the thought of Triple H vs Roman Reigns for the WWE Title in the main event of Wrestlemania. I like the match and WWE has definitely built the story enough to make me care about the feud. I just don’t think the WWE Universe wants to bare witness to another extremely forced Wrestlemania Title run for the second year in a row.
WWE has tried everything to get Roman Reigns over the past year. They have used top talent, buried rising talent and completely ignored to booing fans in effort to make Roman Reigns the new face of WWE. After TLC Vince McMahon made his way back to the camera and immediatley crowned Roman with the WWE Title .
The fans seemed to be mildly content with this and the boos seized for a few weeks until WWE put Roman Reigns on the shoulders of Brock Lesnar for one F5 and all of the mild contention stopped dead in it’s tracks. The second The Beast Incarnate put the WWE Champion on his shoulders WWE saw where the fans stood with Roman Reigns. The booing continued to the following week on Raw and at The Royal Rumble Roman Reigns was booed out of the building.
Is this the kind of instability WWE wants out of their WWE Champion and face of the company? It seems WWE was trying to let the title make the man instead of let the man make the title where HHH is already a made man. Again, leading up to The Royal Rumble I hated the thought of Triple H with the title. Even when he won The Royal Rumble I wasn’t happy, but what I realized after seeing Triple H cut his first Promo on RAW as the new WWE Champion was something I had forgotten over the years… Triple H is an amazing champion. You don’t have to push Triple H and there’s no need to convince the audience he’s deserving of the title, because we already know.
With their top guy and WWE Champion Seth Rollin on the injured list for quite sometime is it better to present the WWE Title less and have it on a true Superstar like Triple H, or Brock Lesnar rather than trying to create something that doesn’t exists (yet) with Roman Reigns. Triple H holding the title and not defending it for 8 weeks may actually give the WWE Title more value than parading on the unstable shoulders of Roman Reigns. That said, and with the announcement of the Triple Threat main event at Fastlane to determine the #1 contender for the WWE Title at Wrestlemania the question arises; “Is the WWE Title destined for less PPV appearances in the first half of 2016?” We already know we’re not getting a title match at Fastlane, but what happens if Brock Lesnar wins that match and goes on to face Triple H at Wrestlemania for the title? I would have to assume Lesnar would win and carry it till he faced Seth Rollins at Summerslam where Rollins would reclaim what many consider to be rightfully his.
There are 5 WWE Network Specials/PPV’s between Wrestlemania and Summerslam and one being “Money In the Bank” which already has a built in story to not have a title match, so out of those 5 PPV’s how many will we see the WWE Title make an appearance in, or maybe the better question is how many of those won’t we?
