After losing the NXT Championship this past weekend at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn 3, “Glorious” Bobby Roode wasted no time letting the WWE fans know what his plans are for the future. Bobby Roode made his main roster debut on Smackdown in a match with Aiden English an up and coming heel on the Smackdown brand. I questioned having Bobby Roode debut against a heel as he was top heel in NXT and WWE should have their pencils working to make sure he will hold the same position on Smackdown.
After a little thought I actually didn’t mind this as an introductory match. No matter who would have been in the ring when Bobby Roode walked out of those blue curtains for the first time, Bobby Roode was going to be over with the crowd, so let the fans cheer him, get it out of their system and then give him the microphone. That’s exactly what WWE did. After his victory over Aiden English, Bobby Roode was interviewed in the middle of the ring where he let the audience know how lucky Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan are to have him on Smackdown, thus instilling his arrogance and ego upon the fans.
As of most fans I couldn’t be more excited to have Bobby Roode on Tuesday nights and after the free agent, John Cena showed up on RAW Monday there was definitely a main event void to fill. Can Bobby Roode fill the hole left behind by John Cena? While Bobby Roode doesn’t have the growing main stream star power John Cena brings I do believe Bobby Roode has a big enough name with the wrestling fans where he can in fact fill those shoes.
I’m predicting it won’t be long before we see Bobby Roode accept a US Open Challenge from Aj Styles. My suggestions would be take your time with Bobby Roode, but not too much time. Let him carry the US Championship for a bit while Shinsuke Nakamura successfully defend the WWE Title against a few people. That gives you a Bobby Roode vs Shinsuke Nakamura rematch and if you remember, it wasn’t too long ago that Bobby Roode defeated Nakamura for the NXT title before Shinsuke made his own Smackdowon debut after Wrestlemania.
However it plays out I love the state of Pro Wrestling today. If I may say so myself.. It’s Absolutely Glorious
