IT WAS the one match I was truly looking forward to seeing on WWE Extreme Rules 2016; the Women’s Championship match. Charlotte vs Natalya in a submission match! Not only had I long anticipated another submission match, this was the perfect opportunity to show how far the WWE Women’s Division has come. Not only did WWE fail to showcase their talent, WWE also failed to give us a true submission match.
This match lacked the psychology you would hope to see in a traditional submission match. The Submission holds came almost right out of the gate, the match was too short to build any true suspense, and despite how it was promoted or promised we, the fans, didn’t really get anything. A true submission match could easily have been the best exhibition of talent on the Extreme Rules card this year if really given the opportunity as was promoted.
Instead of using this WWE Women’s Championship match to showcase the women’s talent, the WWE used this as an opportunity to build Dana Brooke as the new Arn Anderson for at least the near future, something that could have been done after the match, or even on Monday Night RAW. Maybe a final reiteration of the whole idea, or a wish for future WWE activity??
